THE ALL Progressives Congress,
APC, candidate for Southern
Ijaw state constituency, Mr.
Ebifaghe Orunimighe, on
Sunday hailed the Independent
National Electoral Commission
for releasing the timetable for the
rerun election in Southern Ijaw
Constituency 4.
Orunimighe, the APC
candidate in the April 2015
Bayelsa State House of Assembly
election in the constituency is one
of the opponents of the embattled
Speaker of the Assembly, Mr.
Kombowei Benson.
Orunimighe said the release
of the timetable to fill the vacant
post in the constituency created
by the annulment of the election
that returned Benson had
vindicated his position that the
Speaker was occupying the seat
The Court of Appeal sitting in
Port Harcourt, Rivers State, had
in December 9, 2015 nullified the
April 2015 election that returned
Benson and ordered a conduct of
a rerun election.
However, the judgment
sparked controversy as the Court
of Appeal judgment triggered
claim and counter-claim by
Orunimighe and Benson.
While Orunimighe said the
judgment had nullified Benson’s
election, Benson on his own part
said the judgment he had was
in his favour and that the court
dismissed the APC suit
