The All Progressives Congress, APC, in Akwa Ibom has lauded the support and endorsement given to the party by the foremost socio-political group in Oron ethnic nationality, the Oro Think Tank, OTT.
APC deputy governorship candidate in the state, Engr Ben Ukpong said in Oron when he consulted members of the apex organisation to officially appreciate them for their commitment in defending the collective interest of Oron as well as formally intimate them of his political ambition.
Ukpong stated that the resilience and sacrifice of the organisation towards actualising the Oro governorship quest and making Oro to remain in the mainstream of politics in the state remained commendable.
He maintained that the people of the area now had alternative prospect to chart a new course by supporting the APC to wrestle the leadership of the state from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and assured the OTT members that their support would not be in vain.
According to him, OTT has been able to lay a concrete roadmap for Oro’s political relevance in the state, which has culminated in the prevailing political consciousness of all Oro people whom he said had massively accepted the APC.
“Oro Think Tank has been able to provide a roadmap, and courtesy of that roadmap, all Oro people are now singing APC. Through the effort of the OTT, those who thought that Oro has no credible aspirant and would not afford the governorship nomination forms were disappointed as eight indigenes of the area were able to vie for the topmost seat under the PDP,” Ukpong said.
He reiterated his determination to liaise with the APC governorship candidate, Mr. Umana Umana to develop Oro and other parts of the state equitably if elected to take over the affairs of the state in next month’s governorship election.
In his remarks, OTT chairman, Chief Okon Osung thanked the deputy governorship candidate and the APC for recognising the efforts made by the organisation to project and protect the political interest of the people of the area.
“I must thank the deputy governorship hopeful because he has really described the patriotic struggle we went through. We cannot claim to come from Akwa Ibom if we cannot aspire and occupy the highest office of the state,” Osung said.
The OTT had last weekend at Oro Civic Centre endorsed the APC candidates for the elections next month.
