Leaders of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the South East geopolitical zone have called on security agents to prosecute the 15 officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC in Imo State caught recently altering results of National Assembly elections in the state.
Addressing newsmen yesterday in Owerri, the zonal vice chairman of APC, spokesperson of the group, Chief Emma Eneukwu alleged that the INEC officials, working in concert with the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, were arrested in Owerri while reportedly thumb printing fresh ballot papers and manipulating election figures against APC candidates in the March 28 National Assembly polls.
Eneukwu, who hinted that APC is insisting on parading and prosecution of the arrested suspects, also called for the arrest and prosecution of PDP stalwarts, who were sponsors of the illegality, stressing that only that would unmask them and serve as a deterrent to others in future elections.
He alleged that PDP and its agents in INEC were attempting to perfect the irregularities they committed during the polls, pointing out the recent call by PDP for total cancellation of the entire polls.
Adding his voice, the National Organizing Secretary of the party, Sen. Osita Izunaso stated the APC is ready for the Saturday re-run election in parts of the state and condemned PDP’s call for outright cancellation of the April 11 exercise.
“The call to us in the APC is considered as most unfortunate, unacceptable and the cry of a defeated man. What is the basis for the call when the votes have been declared by the INEC with APC and its candidate leading?”
The zonal vice chairman called on INEC to declare Owelle Rochas Okorocha winner of the April 11 governorship election, insisting that the call for cancellation by PDP is an indication that the party has accepted defeat.
Contributing, a chieftain of the APC in Imo State, Engr. Ezekiel Izuogu lamented that PDP has over the years it was in power, made electioneering a fraudulent business and called on stakeholders to strongly condemn the action.
