All Progressives Congress, APC in Rivers State has called on the state Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, Dame Gesila Khan to release sensitive materials used during the April 11 election without further delay to enable the party file its petition before the election tribunal.
Briefing newsmen in Port Harcourt yesterday, the duo of the APC state Chairman, Dr Davies Ibiamu Ikanya and the governorship candidate of the party, Dr Dakuku Adol Peterside said the REC has refused to release the documents demanded by the party.
Describing the refusal by Dame Khan to release the documents as a ploy to prevent them from filing their petition, Ikanya accused the REC of rewriting the results, pointing out that the documents were not available as at the time results were announced in the state.
He said: “In accordance with relevant laws and particularly the Freedom of Information Act, our party on the 14th and 15th of April applied to the REC in Rivers State, Dame Gesila Khan to produce all relevant documents used in the conduct of the April 11 election. Such letters were also copied to the INEC main office in Abuja.
“In that letter, we requested for 16 documents, which include; Unit result sheets, EC8A, EC8AVP, EC8A1, EC81VP, ward collation result sheets, LGA collation result sheets, state collation result sheets, EC8D and EC8D1, EC8DE, EC8E1, forms EC40E, EC40G, and other EC40 series used for the elections.
“Register of voters used for the election in all units and voting points, number of registered voters for each poling units and voting points, number of PVC distribution for each polling unit and voting point, list of INEC approved ad hoc staff that served in the April 11 election, including SPOs, POs, APOs, all collation officers, LGA collation officers, LGA returning officers, state collation and returning officers.”
Other documents demanded by the party, according to him, included; Form EC17, oath of affirmatives through neutrality deposed to by the ad hoc staff used for the elections, Form EC25, inventory of materials distributed by the REC to the Eos, Eos to the SPOs and SPOs to the Pos.
