The All Progressive Congress, APC, governors in the country have resolved to rally round the Bauchi State government’s quest to sustain the tourism potentials of the Yankari Games Resort and Safari Tourist Centre.
The governors said this at the APC Governors Forum, adding that Yankari Resort has the potentials to be the best in Africa. Chairman of the forum, Governor of Imo State, Chief Rochas Okorocha, said the APC-led federal government will work to step up the resort.
“Our host governor of Bauchi State deserves to be commended for bringing Yankari back to business; we are ready to support the governor to improve Yankari Resorts and Safari to make it one of the best in Africa.
“Yankari is a must come because of its beauty and animals that are scattered, I will serve as the marketing manager in that aspect and the governors under this forum have resolved to support the improvement of Yankari” he said.
Also speaking, the Bauchi State governor, Muhammad Abubakar, commended the founders of the forum, adding that it will serve as a vehicle that will ginger and sustain developmental strides of the APC government.
He reiterated the need for the governors to look inward and ensure that their Internally Generated Revenue, IGR, was improved upon, more so as the revenue accruable to the states has been dwindling.
According to him, the present situation was not healthy for such states and already, Bauchi has intensified efforts aimed at improving its IGR, noting that a government delegation was sent to Kano, Lagos and Rivers states to secure supporting documents that will assist in improving its revenue base.
In spite of the dwindling revenue, he enjoined the governors to consider the economy of the nation, so that they would not be caught napping.
Governor Abubakar pointed out that there was need for states to showcase the abundant tourist attraction in Bauchi, saying that he deliberately decided to take the APC governors forum meeting to Yankari to allow them showcase the international standard facilities provided by the state government.
