Indications have emerged that the display of crass disrespect for Edo political leaders, elder statesmen from the state as well as the presidential protocol by Governor Adams Oshiomole during the party’s recent mega rally honored by top party chieftains has shamed President MuhammaduBuhari.
The President as leader of the party had graced the occasion in Benin City, capital of Edo State to drum support for the APC candidates and as well as see to projects executed by the governor, which could also help him campaign to the mammoth gathering to vote for the APC candidate.
Rather than welcome the President formally, and then allow the party’s candidate to address the people in the presence of the President, it was learnt that Governor Oshiomhole in defiance to presidential protocol took to the stage and began to insult rival Peoples Democratic Party, PDP governorship candidate and that party’s elders.
The Nigerian Pilot Sunday learnt that his attitude became so appalling that the President lost interest in his speech and twice, presidential security aides had to draw his attention to the President’s itinerary for the day in Abuja, since his visit to Edo State was not a state visit, but simply a campaign rally.
It was also gathered that the moves by the presidential aides was to stop the governor, following the President’s disappointment at his showmanship, which was further buttressed in his calm disposition occasionally flagged by various camera close-up shots at the event.
The governor’s condemnable attitude, according to close sources to the government house and Aso Villa, was a top discussion amongst APC chieftains, his fellow governors and some prominent party leaders who were also at the VIP stand during the rally.
