The All Progressives Congress in Akwa Ibom has described as false, claims of achievements recorded by Governor Udom Emmanuel in his first 100 days in office.
The commissioner for information in the state, Mr Aniekan Umana recently at a news conference told journalists that Emmanuel had recorded “superlative performances in the road, aviation, maritime and the civil service in his first 100 days in office as governor.”
But the APC in a statement signed by its publicity secretary and made available to newsmen in Uyo described such claims as false and a deliberate strategy to deceive the people of the state.
It said that most of the acclaimed completed projects were either completed by previous administrations or have just been initiated or started describing pages of advertorial on newspapers as a deceit.
“They all amount to characteristic duplicity, squandermania, and the use of all manners of subterfuge to misappropriate billions of Naira of state funds in the name of projects construction.
“We find it very worrisome that the Udom Emmanuel interregnum is claiming the construction of over 80 km of roads whereas nobody has heard, since it assumed office of the selection and engagement of consultants for the designs of the roads and bridges, the advertisement for job tendering, analysis of tender, selection and award of contract and to which firm(s) including the scope, cost and projected period of completion, the necessary budgetary adjustment in the form of a supplementary budget to take care of such projects.
“In any event, the APC recalls that in 2013, former Governor Godswill Akpabio had flagged off the dualisation of 75 km Eket – Etinan road. A budgetary provision of N26 billion was made for it. In the usual manner of the Akpabio regime, the contract was awarded to a Chinese construction company, CCECC Nigeria Ltd, and Akwa Ibom people were told the project will be completed in 36 months. This is one of the several failed road projects of the Akpabio administration. We have no doubt that it is this Akpabio’s Eket – Etinan failed and abandoned road project that the Udom Emmanuel interregnum is fraudulently palming off in the name of constructing a nonexistent “dualisation of 19.7 km Uyo – Etinan Road,” Awak submitted.
It also faulted claims of completion of MRO facility, new terminal building and new runway at the Ibom airport as the MRO was already in place before his administration while there is no evidence of a new airport terminal and new runway at the airport.
It accused former Governor Godswill Akpabio’s regime of siphoning money using the Ibom Tropicana complex, and expressed concern that the current administration has continued to spend money on the project.
The party observed that it was disappointing for the governor to claim that the construction of Ibaka Deep Seaport was in progress when it has only managed to constitute Technical Committee on Ibaka Deep Seaport project.
