Thousands of All Progressives Congress, APC, supporters in Cross River State took to the streets of Calabar to celebrate the victory of the party’s presidential candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari.
General Buhari was declared winner of last weekend’s presidential election by the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Prof. Atahiru Jega.
At the state APC secretariat, the state secretary of the party, Mr. Victor Ebong commended Nigerians for their support.
Mr. Ebong disclosed that the victory of General Buhari was “a watershed in Nigeria’s political history as it was the first time a sitting president was voted out of office.”
He also commended INEC for the successful conduct of the elections despite the initial hiccup.
A leader of the party in the state, Mr. Moses Udoh said General Buhari’s victory was a reflection of the yearning of the people.
According to him, “Our people have been yearning for change, and the elections provided ample opportunity for them to vote change.”
