Hamdalat, who was said to have lost her daughter, Barakat Ayinde, earlier in the day, was reported to have been on her way to source for money in order to retrieve the body of her deceased daughter. The father of the woman identified as Alhaji Popoola was also allegedly attacked. The husband of the victim, Abdul-Akeem Ayinde who spoke to our correspondent on phone explained that he was informed on phone that his wife was attacked. Ayinde said that he and his wife were at different locations to source for N116, 000 charged by the hospital before it could release the remains of his daughter who died of typhoid in the hospital. He further explained that two of his colleagues, Hazzan Adedamola and one Nafiu were also attacked on getting to the scene while their bike was also destroyed. He said, “Our first born died
in the hospital and FMC charged us N116, 000. Me and my wife were struggling to source for the money and we have to go our different ways to source for the
money. “I was later called on phone that my wife was attacked at Saje area and on getting there, she has been harassed and we met her naked and we couldn’t approach the thugs because they were armed with cutlass. “Some of the thugs later escaped in a jeep and we were able to dispossess one of them and took him to the police station, but to our dismay, the other guys later appeared in the police station and they were all released,” Ayerinde explained. He further said that while his wife was hospitalised in another hospital, the remains of her daughter were still being held at the FMC. Meanwhile, the Muslim Rights Concern, MURIC, has described the actions of the thugs as terrorism, capable of causing religious disharmony within the community. The state coordinator of MURIC, Lukman Soliu in a release said the police should immediately re-arrest the culprits and prosecute them with immediate effect. The statement read in part: “Therefore, the Muslim community wants the police to prosecute the case with desired urgency it requires. The Muslim community will not tolerate the case being swept under the carpet as done in the past when Muslims attacked were treated as inconsequential by the police, especially at Adatan Police Station. Our position was further buttressed by the release of the culprits few hours after their arrest.” When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer of Ogun Police Command, Abimbola Oyeyemi confirmed the incident and explained that the matter was being addressed amicably.
