All Progressives Congress, APC, in Akwa Ibom State has warned Labour Party, LP, in the state against claims that 21 chapter chairmen of the APC defected to the LP.
The party’s state publicity secretary, Mr. Samuel Udobong told newsmen yesterday in Uyo that claims and media reports of t defection of chairmen were false and an attempt to destroy the recent gains made by the party in the state.
“The claims and reports were false, wicked and deliberate attempt by LP to rubbish and drag the name of the state chapter of the APC in the mud, because even the names of those claimed to be chapter chairmen that decamped were not even members of the APC.
“The Akwa Ibom APC is warning those behind the blackmail and propaganda to desist henceforth, because we will not take it kindly with continued attempts to drag the name of our great party in the mud.
“We were surprised to hear such false information reported this morning on 104.5 Atlantic Fm radio. The APC hereby want the LP and any other registered party in Akwa Ibom to know that continued plots to bring division and confusion in the APC is pointless. Even before now the APC as a party had positioned itself well to win Akwa Ibom State.
“And our chieftains and supporters have always shown serious commitment and loyal in our vision to take over the state. So we are refuting that report and attempt to rubbish APC in Akwa Ibom. For the fact that the report is coming this time when we are celebrating our win at the centre shows that it is, frivolous, malicious and deliberate.”
The publicity secretary therefore called on the public and members of the party to disregard such reports and to continue to remain focused, adding that the party would not give in to distractions.
He posited that the emergence of Maj-General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd) as the winner of the March 28 presidential election would boost the membership and support base of the party in the state.
