The All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA candidate in the 2015 governorship election in Kaduna, Mr. Polycarp Danladi Gankon, has appealed the governorship election tribunal judgment upholding Governor Nasir El-Rufai of the All Progressives Congress, APC as winner of the election.
Mr. Polycarp Danladi Gankon, has filed an appeal at the Kaduna Appeal Court challenging the judgment.
Briefing newsmen in Kaduna at the weekend, the APGA candidate said, he proceeded to the Appeal Court because he was not comfortable with the judgment at the election tribunal.
According to him, “we are not comfortable with the judgment of the election tribunal as it is critical to the polity and politics of the people of Kaduna State.
“What we saw was judgment and not justice. We observed that the whole procedure from the beginning to the end has a big question mark. After due consultations with many interest groups in the state, there was the strong need to challenge the judgment, hence the filing of the case at the Court of Appeal in order to seek for redress.”
He added, “What we are doing today is to tell the whole world that we have gone to the next step to demand for what we strongly believe was not given to us. All we are after is for justice to be clearly spelt out in the case for the people of Kaduna State.”
While acknowledging the fact that a lot of issues would be revealed at the Court of Appeal, he wandered why with over 4,000 polling units out of the 5,000 polling units in the state with lots of alterations on result sheets of the election, the tribunal upheld the election. “APGA had no choice than to listen to the general out cry of the people of the state to demand from what they believe was taken away from them.”
Mr. Gankon thanked the good people of Kaduna State for their support and solidarity in ensuring justice prevails at the end of the struggle while he enjoined the people to remain steadfast, prayerful and law abiding citizens.
The Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Kaduna had on 15th October upheld the election of Nasir El-Rufai of the APC as the elected governor of the state and dismisses the petition of Mr. Gankon on the ground that it lacks merit.
