A non-governmental organisation under the auspices of Northern Christian Solidarity Forum has hailed President Muhammadu Buhari and the National Assembly for appointing two of its own, Engineer Babachir David Lawal as the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, and Mr. Dogara Yakubu, Speaker, House of Representatives.
The forum in a statement jointly signed by its Chairman, Secretary and former Chairman, Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, North East, Rev. John Joseph Hayab, Patriot Simon AS Dolly and Rev. Dr. Shuaibu Byal respectively said the appointment clearly signals that the era of religious differences in the north are over.
The forum said they are particularly happy with the appointments because of its tendency to unite the northern region, noting that those days of bickering between Christians and Muslims in the north are over.
According to the statement, “As a body, we have been following the activities of President Muhammadu Buhari and the National Assembly with keen interest. And after three months of steering the affairs of this country, we confidently say that Buhari means well for this country.
“We commend him for appointing Engr. Lawal, a Christian from Adamawa State, North-East, as the SGF. In the same vein, we want to express our gratitude to members of the House of Representatives for electing Mr. Dogara Yakubu, a Christian minority from Bauchi State as their Speaker.
“The emergence of Babachir as SGF and Yakubu is a clear signal that President Buhari means well for Nigerians. Babaachir’s appointment clearly shows that the president is ready to fight corruption. We believe that his appointment will strengthen the unity among Christians and their Muslim brothers in the region.
“We believe in the competency of Babachir and there is no denying the fact that the new SGF will help Buhari transform Nigeria for good. We commend the president and the National Assembly for breaking religious barriers. The NASS did well by voting Dogara. To this end, we want to assure President Buhari and Vice President Yomi Osinbajo and their team of our support and willingness to support the administration with prayers.’’
