Abia state government has petitioned the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC over alleged injustice meted to the state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and her members during the April 11 governorship and state assembly elections in the state.
In the petition, dated April 22, 2015, the state Commissioner for Information, Dr A.C.B Agbazuere appealed to the Commission to address all issues emanating from the elections in the state with dispatch.
Although he said the state government was not interested in joining issues with the commission on the legality or illegality of the supplementary election, scheduled for today, the commissioner explained that an articulated position of the state government on the supplementary election is attached to the petition.
Speaking further, the Commissioner stated that the state government no longer has confidence in the Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state as well as the returning officer.
In another petition addressed to the Chief of Army Staff, the Commissioner alleged that soldiers posted to some areas in the state played partial roles against the PDP until the Brigade Commander in the area intervened and restored normalcy.
