In order to ensure a peaceful House of Assembly election, the Kogi state Police Command said it has set the necessary machinery in motion to monitor and control the excesses of some politicians in the state.
The Kogi state Police Public Relations officer, Sola Collins Adebayo stated this while speaking to journalists in Lokoja, saying that the commissioner of Police, Mr. Samuel Adeyemi Ogunjemilusi, had already had a meeting with politicians where he advised them not to go against the law or do anything that will breach the peace during the this saturday election.
He said with the outcome of the presidential and National Assembly election, the police is aware of the plan by some politicians to attack Independent National Electoral Commission staff during the House of Assembly election in the state.
Accroding to him, any politicians caught breaking the law and the peace accord signed with them would be arrested and prosecuted, no matter how highly placed would , adding that the commissioner has instructed all police formation in the state to arrest whoever that will breach the law.
Explaining further, the PPRO added that the police commissioner has briefed the Divisional Police officers in the state in order to evolve strategies that will curb violence during the election.
However, he said the Police command has identified Ayingba, Ayetoro, Igalamela, Odolu, Ebiya, Ajaka among other areas as violence prone zones, saying, the security of these areas will receive extra hands for a peaceful election on saturday.
