Osun State Governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola has promised to complete all the initiated projects embarked upon by his administration, even as he vowed to remain firm in the face of condemnation, rebuke and attack on the pages of a section of the media.
Governor Aregbesola made the promise when he hosted media practitioners across the states during a get-together fast-breaking dinner, at Government House, Osogbo.
The state helmsman, who frowned at what he described as unprofessionalism, incompetence and malevolence, the myriads of unverified news stories allegedly sponsored and published consistently against the contents and context of the well- articulated policies and programmes of his government, pledged that irrespective of intimidation, the current government would not derail in its bid at drifting towards economic prosperity.
According to him, “my joy tonight is that our state continues to survive in spite of the mischievous, desperate and malicious contents in some sections of the media against our government.
“Unfortunately, media in recent times, have portrayed our government as one of the worst in the country whereas the reverse was the case.
“It has erroneously portrayed us as a famished seeking state. Even sometimes regarded our state as a state that owes mountain of salaries, while all these claims are purely lies and fabrication. But what is striking and fascinating in this was that, every sane person would wonder why the sponsors and media professionals engaged in this propaganda, and as well descend to persuasion and inducement.
“Available records have shown that there is no iota of doubt in the fact that some media practitioners have demonstrated their hatred to us through their adamant disposition to falsehood, baseless and unfounded claims against our noble political voyage.
“I wonder why they found it difficult to display high sense of commitment to journalistic ethics and media professional code of conduct despite the conspicuous realities. The pertinent question is that, whether or not the media assess itself, facts must always be disseminated and reported, and it is on the basis of this that we have always advised the media experts to support the dissemination of reliable, accurate, objective, authentic, impersonal, dis-sensational and factual news.
“We have also continuously challenged the media practitioners to always champion the ethics of their profession in consolidating their importance and relevance to the society”, he added.
