A Non Governmental Organization, Arewa Youth and Women Collation for Good Governance (AYWCGO) has formally endorsed the aspiration of Hon Yakubu Dogara, representing Dass, Tafawa Balewa and Bogoro Federal constituency to be the next speaker of the House of Representatives.
The spokesman of the coalition and coordinator of the forum, Ambassador Aminu Garba Sidi disclosed this yesterday while addressing news men at the NUJ secretariat where he said the decision to endorse the candidature of Dogara was informed by the need to give a sense of belonging to the North East, region he which has been ravaged by insurgency for years now.
He said the North East made the second largest contribution to the electoral fortunes of the APC in both the presidential and National Assembly elections, saying the region is also a home to hundreds of minority tribes in Nigeria and a sizeable population of Christians who should be given a sense of belonging in the new government so as to consolidate the unity and peaceful coexistence the APC victory brought to the region.
“It will therefore be fair to zone the speakership to the North East and particularly to Hon Dogara who has all the qualities to lead the House of Representatives. General Buhari needs people with Hon Dogara’s qualities to help him succeed in his government because of his intellectual capacity and contributions to the parliament. Hon Dogara is also a ranking member who is coming back for the third consecutive term,” the group said.
Ambassador Aminu Sidi pointed out that electing Hon Dogara will help cement the relationship between Northern Christians and Muslims as well as to further unite the people of the country and to give a sense of belonging and representation in the leadership of the country.
He then called on the president-elect and the APC leaders, members of the House of Representatives from all the geo-political zones and indeed all Nigerians to support the aspiration of Hon Yakubu Dogara as speaker of House of Representatives, considering that he is better than all other contenders.
