Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola has said that every citizen should show concern and contribute his own quota for the sake of the nation’s fallen heroes who pledged their lives for the good of this country.
A press release issued by Deputy Director of Information, in the ministry, Theodore Ogaziechi, and made available to Nigerian Pilot in Abuja yesterday, indicated that Mr. Fashola said this while being decorated with the 2016 Armed Forces Remembrance Emblem by the National Chairman, Nigerian Legion, Col. Micah Gayya (rtd) to mark the Armed Forces Remembrance Day in respect of the fallen National Heroes.
He urged the Nigerian Legion to creatively intensify their advocacy programmes and go beyond launching of the emblem so as to be at par with their counterparts in other parts of the world especially the United Kingdom, where their fallen heroes were given a pride of place in the current and on-going British Premier League.
Earlier Col. Gayya (Rtd), had noted that monies generated from the ceremony and decorations are used to support the dependants of those who fell in the line of duty. For this reason, he called for massive support in order to help the Legion raise adequate funds to meet the demands of those families.
Also decorated at the ceremony were the Minister of State for Power, Works and Housing, Alhaji Mustapha Baba Shehuri, including the Permanent Secretary, Works and Housing, Engr. Abubakar Magaji and Directors of the Ministry.
