Nigerian Army said troops of 14 Brigade Garrison in Ohafia have busted a notorious kidnapping syndicate based in Nkporo community in Ohafia Local Government Area of Abia State.
A statement issued by the acting Director of Public Relations, Colonel Sani Usman, said during the operation which was carried out last Sunday, the troops were able to rescue a victim who was earlier shot and kidnapped at Aba on April 6.
The statement said one of the suspected kidnappers, Mr Chidiebere Sunday, was apprehended, while two of his accomplices escaped.
“One other member of the gang in a bid to evade arrest through the roof of their den fell down, hit his head on the hard floor and died. The troops recovered the following items from them; two AK-47 rifles, nine AK-47 rifle magazines loaded with 124 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, one pistol, two rounds of 9mm ammunition, two machetes and N5.4 million only.”
Other items recovered include a Toyota RAV4 jeep with registration number MUS 428 RZ, military camouflage jungle hat, six mobile telephone handsets, an iPad, Diamond Bank Debit Card, bunch of different keys, two empty bags and a wrap of suspected marijuana.
