Men of the 2 Brigade Nigerian Army, yesterday, brought down four suspected kidnappers in Rivers State, after a gun duel. The troops engaged the suspects after invading their camp at Ibaa/Obele community in Emohua local government area of Rivers State, also freed three kidnap victims in their den.
Nigerian Pilot gathered that the victims were ambushed by the hoodlums while travelling along the Rumuji/Emohua axis of the East/West Road on Monday.
Assistant Director, Army Public Relations of the 2 Brigade Nigerian Army, Captain Eli Lazarus, who confirmed the feat in a statement said troops of the Army, acting on information invaded the camp of the kidnappers, informing that the kidnapped victims were rescued unhurt.
The statement read in part: “In continuation of its operations to stem the tide of cultism, kidnapping and other criminal activities in Rivers State, troops of 2 Brigade Nigerian Army rescued 3 kidnap victims in the early hours of today Wednesday 29 June 2016 in Iba/Obele, Emohua LGA of Rivers State.
“The victims were kidnapped on Monday in Rumuji, Emuoha LGA while travelling along the East-west Road. They were subsequently taken to the kidnappers’ camp in Ibaa/Obele by their abductors.
“Acting on information, our troops closed in on the criminals and engaged them to rescue the 3 persons. The 3 men were rescued unhurt while 4 suspected kidnappers were killed during the operation.”
The statement further indicated that the operation is still ongoing to clear kidnappers and cultists camps in the State and called on members of the public to continue to volunteer information that will help its operations.
“The general public is assured that security agencies will not rest on their oars in combating criminals. Therefore, all are enjoined to continue to volunteer useful information that will assist in security agencies to combat crime. Additionally, parents are advised to warn their children/wards to denounce membership of any kidnap/cult group or association with such groups”, the statement added.
