Commander, 2 Brigade Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Stevenson Olabinji has assured Rivers people that the command will continue to provide security in the state, while it continues to go after criminal elements.
Brig Gen Olabinji stated this while reacting to a social media report, where he was quoted as saying that the Army will not provide security during the March 19 scheduled rerun elections in the state.
The Brigade Commander, in a statement signed by the Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, Capt Eli Lazarus, said there was no time he granted interview to anyone to that effect, describing it as a deliberate falsehood aimed as misleading the public.
“The Brigade wishes to state emphatically that the Commander did not grant any press interview or statement on any issue related to it. The publication is only the figment of imagination and deliberate falsehood aimed at misleading the public.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the Brigade is poised to continue to provide security in Rivers State as it has always done to protect all law abiding citizens and deny criminals the freedom of action”, the statement read in part.”
In a similar vein, the Police in Rivers State have denied reports that the Minister of Transportation, Rt Hon arrested and manhandled a Police officer in the state on Monday.
The Police Public relations officer, PPRO, DSP Ahmad Muhammad, in a statement made available to newsmen said the reaction became necessary due to the fact that the story has gone viral.

Amaechi, the Minister of Transportation, has on 12/03/2016 along Port Harcourt-Omagwa road arrested and manhandled a policeman.
