The President of Arewa Youth Development Associate, AYDA, Alhaji Imrana Wada Nas said if the Senate President, Bukola Saraki is eventually arrested on Monday as ordered by the Code of Conduct Tribunal, CCT, the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC should be rest assured that the party will be divided.
He also posited that if APC as a party at the centre, would allow such a very senior member, like the Senate President to be arrested for a controversial corruption charges, without intervening now, that would mark the beginning of the crisis that will split the party.
Wada Nas who disclosed this in a chat with journalists yesterday at the Nigeria Union of Journalists Secretariat, Kaduna described the travail of Saraki as “unnecessary witch hunt” that can be avoided and resolved without much noise.
He observed that there was nothing wrong in investigating any public office holder who violates the law, but insisted the manner the Code of Conduct Tribunal is carrying out its constitutional duty on Saraki matter makes it impossible for Nigerian to “smell a rat”.
The son of the late Wada Nas, said it was unfortunate that the Code Conduct Tribunal is just realising that there were inconsistencies with the senate president’s assets declaration.
Though he agreed that the law that established Code Conduct Bureau empowers it to inform the defendant about inconsistencies observed in his assets declaration form, he questioned why it didn’t do that before prosecuting Saraki.
He also said for the code of Conduct Bureau to now alleged that Saraki made false declaration in his seats declaration form for public officers at the beginning and end of his tenure as governor of Kwara state between May 29 ,2003 and May 28, 2007 is highly suspicious.
Similarly, National Coordinator of North Central Coalition For Positive Change, Lachang Faden has described the ongoing travails currently faced by the Senate President, Bukola Saraki as political witch-hunt by some of his detractors.
He also appealed to all those who opposed the election of Saraki as Senate President to sheath their swords and give peace a chance for fruitful legislation in the country.
Faden cautioned some government agencies not to allow themselves to be used in blackmailing the Senate President, thereby making a mess of Nigerian democracy.
He explained further that the agenda against the Senate President, was purely a false allegation aimed at causing confusion in the senate and the country at large and urged the detractors to embrace peace for a sustainable democracy.
According to him “As faithful and loyal members of APC, we stand to condemn any attempt that is capable of distracting the Senate President.
“We are happy that Senator Saraki is a man of strong will despite the action of some people which poses serious challenge to the development of democratic structures in the country”.
The coordinator applauded the resilience and selflessness of the senate president and call for his commendation and understanding despite the recurrent crisis rocking the Senate.
