Coordinator of Artists’ Village in Lagos, Mr. Tope Babayemi has advised organisers of the ‘Lagos @ 50’ celebration to emphasise more on promoting arts and culture, rather than politics.
Babayemi told the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, on Friday that culture and tradition were integral parts of every society, including its dress, food and language.
He urged that adequate preparation should be made for the celebration billed to begin on May 27, 2017.
He posited that “a festival by definition is a celebration of community that makes everywhere bubbling. Gender, religion, age are all the diversity of community, but all of that should be represented in the celebration of the festival.
“Festivals are not political; they are celebration of community.”
