Nigeria’s top flight soul singer, Asa has held her first ever concert in Lagos, the very city where she grew up before moving to Europe.
The hugely attended concert took fans to their limits as Asa made a huge statement, stunning fans with a two-hour long performance.
Although the artiste has risen to the very top internationally, holding shows across the globe, this is her first personal concert in her hometown.
Tagged ‘Asa Live in Concert’, the May Day event which was hosted by Olisa Adiduba held at the Eko Hotels and Suits, Victoria Island, Lagos, on May 1, 2016.
Five opening acts- Isaac Geralds, Falana, Rachel Kerr, Bez and Kaliné all prepped the crowds with singing and instrumentation.
The legendary soul singer then got on stage and held her fans spellbound with he historic two-hour performance, from her extensive discography of three albums.
Major hits included ‘Bed of Stone’, ‘Jailer’, ‘Bibanke’ and ‘Fire on the mountain’.
There was also a duet with Cobhams, where the pair covered Beyonce’s ‘Halo’.
This was the first time Asa had given back to her hometown, and she did receive the love and support from everyone.
Only elite and ultimately few group acts in modern Nigerian music have the ability to run through a 2-hour set, and engage the crowd through it all.
It was indeed a huge statement!
