Newly installed Emir of Keffi in Nasarawa State, Alhaji Shehu Chindo Yamusa ll has appealed to the state governor, Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, to forgive those who attacked his convoy during his father’s funeral in Keffi and work towards ensuring constant water supply to the ancient city.
The royal father condemned the dastardly act by some of his subjects when he led other members of the emirate council on a thank-you visit to Governor Al-Makura at the Government House in Lafia yesterday, pledging to support the governor in his administration’s efforts to ensure lasting peace and development in the state.
Responding, the governor, who was overwhelmed by the visit, revealed that the state government had awarded N1billion contract for the rehabilitation of Mada water works to ameliorate the hardship faced by communities in accessing potable water.
He said the total turnaround of the water plant and transmission pipelines was to ensure sustained water supply to Keffi, which uses over 75 percent of the water supplied by the plant.
The governor commended the people of Keffi Emirate for the peaceful manner they conducted the selection of the new emir after the demise of his father barely a month ago, calling on them to accord the monarch all the necessary support and cooperation to enable him succeed.
He also assured the royal father that he had forgiven those that attacked his convoy on the day the late emir, Chindo Yamusa I, was being laid to rest, saying the sense of loss he felt for the late monarch was so overwhelming to keep a minor fracas at heart.
