African Union of Broadcasting, AUB, a professional body comprising the National Radio and Television Organisation operating in African has indicated its readiness to use Nigerian Communications Satellite NigComSat-1R Limited, an indigenous satellite services to transmit its numerous cultural programmes across the continent.
The Chairman, Local Organising Committee LOC, AUB, of the 9th Assembly Conference, Engr. Stephen Ogu Moses, disclosed this while on a courtesy visit to the Managing Director and Chief Executive of NigComSat, Ms Abimbola Alale in Abuja.
This was contained in statement signed by the Head of Public Affairs, NigComSat, Adamu Idris and made available to journalists in Abuja, noting that “It is the wish of the LOC of AUB 9th Assembly to use the indigenous satellite services to transmit its numerous cultural programmes.
The Chairman noted that the visit was aimed at exploring the services of the satellite company and ascertains areas where AUB could establish a business relationship with NigComSat.
According to the Chairman, their recommendation will be possible only after test-running NIGCOMSAT-1R services, especially the internet.”
Moses solicited for sponsorship in the area of registration and accreditation of delegates in the 9th Assembly in order to have a befitting event.
In her response, the managing director, NigComSat, commended the team for their interest to use indigenous satellite services, instead of foreign satellite, promising that NigComSat Limited would register 150 delegates free of charge as a way of sponsoring the event.
The team was conducted round the Satellite Control Centre SCC, and Network Operating Centre NOC, of NigComSat Limited.
