As the race on who becomes the next Speaker of the Plateau state House of Assembly gathers momentum, the Member elect for Jos East constituency Joshua Madakı has pledged commitment to offer his best through people-oriented legislation if elected as Speaker.
Our correspondent learnt that five other members-elect who are also eyeing the speakershıp position include Hon. Daniel Dem, Riyom constituency; Hon Baba Hassan, Jos North North; Hon. Ezekiel Afon, Bassa; Hon. Istifanus Mwansat, Pankshin South and Hon. Peter Azi, Jos North West.
Except Mwansat who is from the central zone, other contestants hail from the northern zone where the position of the speaker is expected to emerge since the governor and his deputy hail from the Southern and Central zones respectively.
It was further gathered that members of the 8th Assembly in Plateau state would be inaugurated on Tuesday where the Speaker and other principal officers are expected to emerge.
Speaking with newsmen on the issue in Jos yesterday, Madaki who was elected under the platform of the All Progressives Congress APC and believed to be favoured by his colleagues for the Speakership position said what the 24-member Assembly needed is a leader who would guarantee the interest of the people of the state and that he was prepared to shoulder that responsibility for the benefit of all.
