Kano Pillars coach Mohammed Babaganaru has said the champions are firmly back among the title contenders after a rather difficult first round of the league season.
Pillars trounced visiting 3SC 4-1 on Sunday to now climb to fifth place and come within six points of leaders Sunshine Stars.
“We are genuine title contenders again,” declared a confident Babaganaru after his team saw off a determined Shooting Stars in front of their fans on Sunday.
“Our performance against Shooting Stars must be a warning to Enyimba, who we will play against on Wednesday in Aba.”
Pillars, champions for the past three seasons, have been unbeaten in four matches since the return of Babaganaru in place of Okey Emordi, who was fired.
They face by far their sternest test on Wednesday against title contenders Enyimba, who Babaganaru has picked to jostle for the championship alongside Sunshine Stars.
“Enyimba and Sunshine will give us a good fight (for the title). They have good quality,” admitted the former Nasarawa United handler.
Meanwhile, Pillars forward Moses Ekpai was named man of the match against 3SC and he dedicated his award to his mother.
