Justice Forum, JF, a non-governmental organisation yesterday declared that going by theevidence of former Director of Finance of the Nigerian Air Force, Air CommodoreSalisu Yushau (rtd), in the on-going trial of former Chief of Defence Staff,Air Chief Marshal Alex Badeh before a Federal High Court for alleged money laundering, all former Chiefs of Air Staffby should be investigated by the Federal Government.
Besides, the Forum added that going by the adduced evidence by Air Commodore Yushau, itis clear that present Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshall Sadique Abubakar hasquestions to answer over the N15 billion surplus from personnel cost since hisassumption of duties as the Air Force boss.
JusticeForum also said that having examined the evidence given in court by AirCommodore Yushau, it is mindful of the fact that he is yet to be cross examinedby the defence as to the veracity of his claims thus his claims cannot in anyway mean an indictment of Badeh.
President of the Justice Forum, Mallam Mallam Dangiwa Aboki, who stated the position of the Forum in a statement issued in Abuja, said that considering the anti-corruption stance of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government, members of the Forum are demanding that the present Chief of Air Staff, AirMarshal Sadique Abubakar, should give an account of what he has been doing with the difference between the “actual” wage bill of the Nigeria Air Force and the over N1.7 billion reportedly padded, as claimed by Air Commodore Yushua (rtd).
Aboki further said; “If Yushua is to be believed, the alleged padding has been a non-going thing. The question is from when? Or was it just limited to Badeh’s tenure? These are questions that President Buhari ought have ordered a swift investigation into. And considering the amount involved, we demand that the three services and the ministry of Defense be investigated.
“The period from 1999 when the military handed over to civilians should be a starting point because every expenditure is now subjected to legislative approval. We will like to ask, has the wage bill of the Nigeria Air Force increased or has Air Marshal Abubakar been benefiting with the Chief of Accounts and Budgeting, Air Commodore Ogbeche from the normal N588 million excess?
“Air Marshal Abubakar has been in office since July 2015. Going by Yushua’s tale, the Air Chief should account for N15 billion. The difference between the salary and the approved budget is about N1.7billion,” Aboki stated.
“We demand an immediate investigation of all previous Chiefs of Air Staff, starting from Air Chief Marshal Isaac Alfa, the first Air Chief in the current political dispensation. Others that must be investigated include JD Wuyeb, Paul Dike, Oluseyi Petinrin, A.D. Umar and A.N. Amosu.
