Voting could not take place in some parts of Rivers State due to ballot box snatching.
This is even as over 17,000 (seventeen thousand) military personnel were dispatched to monitor the process in the state.
As at the time of filing this report, there was no election in Gokana local government area of the state as hoodlums hijacked ballot boxes.
In Alesa-Eleme, in Eleme local government area, the INEC officials were counting the votes when hoodlums stormed the polling booths and snatched away the ballot boxes and result sheets.
Other areas where ballot box snatching were experienced include ward 7 in Abua/Odual, Ogu/Bolo, and Tai local government areas, while one Clever Orokowu, a former council secretary was shot dead in Idu community in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni local government area of the state.
There was also no voting in Buguma because of the violence that erupted there earlier. However, parts of the old township, Diobu, Ogbunabali in PHALGA were relatively peaceful as accreditation and voting was peace.
Meanwhile, the Rivers State Governor Rt Hon Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi voted in his ward at Ubima in Ikwerre local government area. The governor, alongside his wife, Same Judith Amaechi, who were accredited around 12.40pm, voted around 2.pm.
But speaking with newsmen shortly after casting his vote, Amaechi decried the violence that has greeted the elections in parts of the state, describing the process as a sham.
