Bauchi State Ministry of Social Welfare and Community Development has distributed items, including baby beds, napkins, towels, milk, pampas, mosquitoe nets, baby oil, clothes and detergents to no fewer than 50 nursing mothers across the 20 local government areas of the state.
Permanent secretary in the ministry, Alhaji Bashir Uba Mashema while distributing the items yesterday, said the gesture would be improved upon with the provision of such products in hospitals for expectant mothers.
He explained that the gesture, which has just been unveiled by the ministry, would be backed up with the deployment of medical and social workers to various hospitals in the state to offer such humanitarian services to both expectant and nursing mothers.
Mashema commended the state government under for the approval for the ministry to carry out the responsibility, describing it as humane.
The permanent secretary stated that the gesture was to assist the nursing mothers, especially the less-privileged ones among them, in nurturing their infants for optimal growth and development.
He advised the beneficiaries to make the best use of the items and warned against sale of the items, stressing that the ministry attached great importance in the upbringing of the younger ones.
