Bauchi State House of Assembly has reiterated its determination to ensure zero tolerance for corruption in all the ministries, extra ministerial agencies and boards in the state aimed at ensuring judicious utilisation of public funds in the state.
This was disclosed by the chairman, House Committee on Information, Hon Ibrahim Hassan Bala, while speaking to newsmen in Bauchi yesterday.
He said the House has vowed to perform its oversight functions as expected.
He explained that the oversight function of the state Assembly was targeted at ensuring prudent use of public funds as well as to ensure that all finances or funds given to different MDAs were properly utilised according to specifications.
Bala pointed out that the Anti Corruption Committee of the House would beam its searchlight on all ministries, departments and agencies of government to tackle corruption issues as well as to block leakages.
“The House has resolved to perform its oversight function concerning all ministries and other government agencies to ensure prudent use of public funds. Also, the Anti Corruption Committee of the House will work with other MDAs to tackle corruption issues.”
He revealed that recently, the House invited the Accountant General of the state to brief them on the way and manner the bailout funds provided by the federal government was utilised, which he said he briefed them to their satisfaction.
He also said very soon they would invite the management of the State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB, to brief them on how it spent its allocated funds, especially the counterpart funding.
He advised progressive associations to support the state lawmakers in making laws that would be beneficial to the citizens of the state.
