Verification and confirmation committee set up by the present government of Bauchi State to verify bank balances from all ministries and othe agencies has discovered that such MDAs operate 335 bank accounts.
This was disclosed yesterday by the chairman of the Verification and Confirmation of Bank balances Committee, Alhaji Salisu Lukman Abubakar while submitting their report to Governor Muhammad Abdullahi Abubakar at the Government House, Bauchi.
He said ministries, departments and agencies of the Bauchi State government operate these banks accounts with commercial banks, micro finance banks and primary mortgage institutions.
He explained that the committee had discovered that the active banks have a combined balance of over N8billion as well as debt balance of over N225million, pointing out that the committee had identified unpresented cheques amounting to over N339million while most of the MDAs have no bank reconciliation statement.
Abubakar said the committee recommended the introduction of Treasury Single Account, TSA, through a technical consultation and advised the state government to adopt public private partnership with the view to improve the capacity of the state-owned companies to pave way for employment generation and enhanced revenue base for the state.
Receiving the report, Governor Muhammad Abubakar thanked the committee members for a job well done and promised that their recommendation would be use for the interest of the people, saying already the state government had presented a bill for public private partnership in an effort to involve private firms into activities of the state-owned companies.
