Bauchi State Council of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC yesterday elected officers to man the affairs of the council for the next four years with the incumbent Chairman Comrade Hashimu Muhammad Gital retaining his position as chairman.
The election, which was conducted under a peaceful atmosphere, was held at the Multipurpose Hall where 1363 delegates from different affiliate unions elected their leadership during the 11th Delegates’ Conference.
At the end of the election the incumbent chairman Comrade Hashimu Muhammad Gital defeated his former Vice Chairman Comrade Yakubu Sagir Kafi with 745 votes against 515 votes, while Comrade Saleh Danjuma of the Nigeria Union of Teachers and Comrade Usman Danturaki from Medical and Health Workers Union were elected as Vice Chairmen respectively.
Similarly Comrade Shehu Isa of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees beat Comrade Muhammad Garba Ningi of Rattawu with 758 votes against 534 votes, while the position of Auditors went to Comrade Sa’ad Garba of Civil Service Union and Comrade Muktar Muhammad of NASU respectively.
The delegates also elected Comrade Muhammad Shehu of NUBIFIE and Comrade Alhassan Umar of NUCFRLANFE AS Ex- Officio members to defeat two others Comrade Sule Adamu and the only woman in the contest Comrade Sheba Hillary of NUPPPROW.
In his acceptance speech, Comrade Hashimu Gital commended all the delegates for reposing confidence on them and for showing maturity throughout the process of the election and assured that they would do everything possible to continue protecting the right of the workers.
