Bauchi state office of the Sustainable Development Goals has expressed its readiness to work towards achieving the major goals and targets of the project in the state for the progress and development of the state.
This was disclosed by the Director General and Focal Person of the project in the state Hajia Fatima Halilu, yesterday at a workshop on the global concept of the SDGs for staff and local government desk officers of the project in the state, held at Destination Hotel, Bauchi.
Hajia Fatima Halilu said some of the goals include eradication of extreme poverty; ensure healthy lives and promotion of well being of the people.
The Director General explained that the workshop was to sensitize staff and stakeholders on what SDGs entails, said the state government had shown its commitment on the success of the project with the payment of its counterpart fund of 600 million Naira.
In his remark, the State Head of Service Alhaji Liman Bello, said the SDGs projects has been impacting positively on the lives of the people of the state particularly those living in the rural areas.
Alhaji Liman Bello represented by Alhaji Ladan Kangere, used the forum to reiterate the commitment of the present administration in the state on training and re-training of its workers in order to promote productivity in the state civil service.
He called on the participants to use the skills and knowledge gained in the workshop to ensure the successful implementation of the SDGs project in the state.
Also speaking, commissioner for Local Government Affairs Alhaji Sama’ila Muhammad Isa, said the state government was interested in all the goals set aside by the project, especially fighting poverty among the people.
The commissioner represented by the Director Admin and Human Resources of the Ministry Alhaji Ahmed Musa observed that people at the grassroots are the key beneficiaries of the project, assured the readiness of the state government to give its support for the successful transition from MDGs to SDGs in the state.
