LEADERS and supporters of the
All Progressive Congress (APC)
in Bayelsa State are set to file a suit
against the Federal Government at
the Federal High Court sitting Port
Harcourt, Rivers over alleged attempt
to extend the tenure of the
current Management board of the
Niger Delta Development Commission
(NDDC).
According to the Bayelsa APC,
through Comrade Sunday Frank-
Oputu, the decision to approach
the Court of competent jurisdiction,
despite the denial by the Secretary
to the Federal Government
(SGF), Boss Gida Mustapha,was
based on the conviction that the
Presidency and some agents of
Government are moving to violate
the NDDC Act on tenure of the
Board.
Hon. Frank-Oputu, who is a
one time State Chairman of the
Conference of Nigerian Political
Parties (CNPP) while speaking
with news men in Yenagoa on

Saturday , said though the State
Leaders of the APC, Comrade Yekini
Nabena and the Secretary of
Bayelsa APC Caucus were duly
consulted, the Party is seeking an
order of the Court to stop the move
by the Federal Government and
it’s agents to renew the tenure of
the present NDDC Board beyond
December 15th.
According to Oputu, “ We have
concluded plan to file a suit at the
Federal High Court in Port Harcourt.
We are not happy over the
development.. We are asking the
court for an order stopping such
violation of the NDDC Act. We will
secure an order of perpetual injunction
stopping the Presidency from
elongating the tenure of the NDDC
Board.”
“That was what happened when
the Former Acting Managing Director
and Ex-Commissioner, Ibim
Semenitare tenure was about to be
renewed, the people of Akwa Ibom
State protested and approached the
Court. President Buhari saw the
sense in their protest and appoint-

clause in the NDDC Act. We call on
him not to allow the parochial few

illegality.”
Hon. Frank Oputu also dismissed
as “blackmail” and “admittance
of guilt” the allegation being
levelled against the State Rep, Prof
Nelson Brainbayefa as the sponsor
of the protest by the APC, “the
Bayelsa Rep. is not in our support in
this fight, but some element in the
party are trying to blackmail him
against other board members, as if
he is in support of our pursuit for
our right .”
Oputu also declared that if the
Court order failed to restrict and
stop the alleged illegality, “we are
ready to occupy the NDDC office
in Port Harcourt with over 500,000
supporters of the Party if the new
Board is not appointed after the tenure
of .We will occupy with foams
and mats until PMB do the right
thing”
He expressed worry over the pur

being handled by the State Leaders
of the Party in Bayelsa and
Rivers, “We are worried but we
will call on the Former Governors
of Rivers and Bayelsa, Mr. Rotimi
Amaechi and Chief Timipre Sylva
to resolve their differences and
stop this illegality that is aboit
to rob Delta and Bayelsa of their
tenure to lead the NDDC.”
It would be recalled that
recently Ijaw Youths from the
Nine States of the Niger Delta
Region under the aegis of the
Niger Delta Youth Leadership
Forum (PANDLEAF) and the
Ijaw Youths Council (IYC) have
rejected the alleged move by the
Federal Government to extend
the tenure of the present Board
of the Niger Delta Development
Commission (NDDC).
According to PANDLEAF and
the IYC , the alleged move is
conventional aberration,highly
insensitive, very inciting and capable
of breaching the peace currently
enjoyed in the region.
