BAYELSA State Government will continue to implement policies and programmes capable of improving service delivery in Rural Health Centres across the state with a view to ensuring that every Child is immunised against child killer diseases. The Commissioner for Local Government Administration, Pastor Agatha Goma yesterday disclosed this during a stopover at the Agudama Epie Community Centre, for the monthly routine immunisation for infants and children there, while on inspection of ongoing projects being undertaking by the Yenagoa Local Government. Pastor Goma said the World Health Organisation is currently assisting the state with training of about 500 Community Health Workers in order to empower them with skills for effective service delivery at the rural health facilities across the state. She said the most important aspect of the training is that those being trained will also train their colleagues in order to put everyone on the same page and up to notch. Stressing further, she advised mothers to ensure that they make their children available for every stage of the immunisation to guarantee the protection of the young ones from preventable diseases. While encouraging husbands to give their wives support in caring for the children, Pastor Goma also impressed on mothers the need to adopt exclusive breastfeeding in view of its abundant benefits to both mothers and the infants. The commissioner commended Yenagoa local government Caretaker Committee Chairman, Hon. Oboku Oforji and his team for ensuring that children who are the future of the state receive adequate medicare. In his response, the Yenagoa local government Caretaker Committee Chairman, Hon. Oboku Oforji commended the state governor for giving the council enabling environment to perform, despite the biting economic downturn. Hon. Oforji also thanked Pastor Goma for the all-inclusive way she has handled local government administration ministry since her appointment as commissioner. Highlight of the stopover visit at the Agudama-Epie Health Centre was the administration of doses of immunisation on the children by the Commissioner and Yenagoa local government Caretaker Committee Chairman. In related development, the commissioner for local government administration, Pastor Agatha Goma has called on communities hosting government projects to take ownership of such projects by protecting them not only to ensure that they enjoy maximum benefits from such projects, but also to attract further development to their communities. Pastor Goma gave this advice while inspecting the newly rehabilitated and equipped Community Health Centre at Bumodigbene in Yenagoa local government area. Pastor Goma said the Health Centre, when finally completed, will provide services to pregnant women and children as well as reduce high incidence of infant mortality and morbidity in the area. She commended the Yenagoa Local Government authority for buying into the restoration agenda of Governor Seriake Dickson which is envisioned to make life easy for the masses of Bayelsa. Fielding questions from news at Bumodigbene, the traditional ruler of the community, Chief Apolos Emmanuel commended the state governor, Hon. Seriake Dickson for appointing an honest, transparent and diligent gentleman in person of Hon. Oboku Oforji as Yenagoa Local Government Caretaker Committee Chairman at this difficult time when only a prudent person can effectively manage the council. Chief Apolos Emannuel also commended the Local Government Administration commissioner, Pastor Goma for going around see things for her rather than sit in the office. He said the continued inspection by the commissioner will put council chairmen on the toes Earlier, the commissioner had inspected the on-going Ultra Modern Shopping Complex at Ekeki Motor Park and the Opolo Epie 600 mitre drainage system which has permanently stopped the perennial flooding of Opolo community. The Commissioner was conducted round the dual storey building Shopping Centre housing 74 shops with other modern facilities including a solar powered borehole and parking facilities by the Yenagoa Local Government Caretaker Committee Chairman, Hon Oboku Oforji. Pastor Goma who expressed satisfaction with the quality of work done at the two sites, commended Hon Oforji for thinking out of the box and investing in projects that have direct bearing on the populace. She said the Shopping Centre will increase Yenagoa Local Government internally generate revenue and boost economic activities of the metropolis. Responding, Yenagoa Local Government Caretaker Committee Chairman, Hon. Oboku Oforji said his administration will continue to invest in the people in order to justify the confidence reposed in him by the state governor, Hon. Seriake Dickson, assuring that the people remain the corner stone of his policy formulation and project execution. The commissioner was accompanied on the tour by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr. Tonye Opuike and other management staff of the Ministry of Local Government Administration.
