Bayelsa State Deputy Governor, Rear Admiral Gboribiogha John Jonah yesterday promised to submit a comprehensive report to the Federal Government on communities affected by the flood, with a view to ameliorating their plight.
Speaking at Isampou, Rear Admiral Gboribiogha John Jonah(rtd), assured the people that the State government would do everything possible to mitigate their sufferings, occasioned by the flood.
He visited some flood-impacted communities in the State, in order to ascertain the extent of flooding in the State, and communities visited so far, include; Sagbama Town and Toru-Orua Community, Isampou, Odi, Kaiama and Sabagreia communities in Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area.
The Deputy governor therefore directed the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure to visit the affected communities and take some appropriate measures in order to prevent future occurrences.
In his speech, the Member Representing Kolokuma/Opokuma/Yenagoa Federal Constituency in the Federal House of Representatives, Hon. Douye Diri, called on the Federal Government to take some immediate remedial measures such as provision of relief materials in order to alleviate the sufferings of displaced persons as they have lost their means of livelihood.
He also thanked the State government for being sensitive to the plight of the people of his constituency by responding immediately by way of the visit of the deputy governor to conduct an on-the-spot assessment of the flooded areas.
