Kinsmen of ex-President Goodluck Jonathan in Ogbia kingdom, Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, have promised to work for the re-election of Governor Seriake Dickson.
The governor and his entourage were in Ogbia kingdom in continuation of his community-to-community tour. They were received by leaders and members of various communities including Jonathan’s Otuoke, Ologi, Otuokpoti, Anyama,Okodi, Epebu, Otuasega, Kolo town, Emeyal, Imiringi, Elebele, Opume, Oloibiri, Ogbia,Otakeme, Otuabagi and others.
Residents trooped out en-masse to receive the campaign train of the governor, whom they described as a true son of Ijawland. Business activities in the affected communities were shut down during the two-day tour.
In endorsing Dickson for re-election, they noted that in spite of the dwindling allocation from the Federation Account, he has been able to change the face of the state with the provision of the needed infrastructure in all communities, adding that the prompt payment of workers’ salary, welfare packages for senior citizens and his administration’s effective action to curb activities of sea pirates were significant achievements.
“If this could be achieved in four years, then our amiable governor should be given the opportunity to serve another four years in office’,’’ according to Chief Graham Ipigansi, who spoke on behalf of the community.
Addressing a mammoth crowd of supporters who received him at Epebu, the governor said this is the time to stand firm by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, that has given the people, particularly Ogbia kingdom a pride of place in the political history of the country.
He promised that his administration would intensify efforts to link the communities along Anyama axis with a road to Yenagoa, the state capital, adding that he has approved the rehabilitation of dilapidated power lines from Kolo creek gas turbine to provide electricity for Anyama and environs.
He assured the people that if supported to actualise his re-election bid, he would surpass the achievements of his first term.
Describing their Permanent Voter Cards, PVCs, as the only tool needed to actualise this dream, he said they should troop out on election day to vote and defend their votes, stressing that they should not be swayed by the propaganda of the opposition party, the All Progressives Congress, APC, which he said does not mean well for the people of the state.
Dickson, who described ward 13 which comprises Otueke, Otuabula 1, Ewoi and Otuaba communities as the greatest ward in the state having produced the first president from this part of the country, stressed the need for their support for the PDP in the coming election.
In the governor’s entourage were the Deputy Governor, Rear Admiral Gboribiogha John Jonah, Paramount Ruler of Opume, King Amalate Turner, Sodaguo Festus-Omoni, Mitema Obodor, Naomi Ogoli, Director-General of the Restoration Campaign Organisation, Fred Agbedi, Jonathan Obuebite and a host of others.
