Beggars have returned in droves to Sokoto city again despite the monthly allowance of N6,500 announced by the state government.
The intiatives was introduced by the immediate past administration of Wammakko.
However, over, 5,000 baggars enjoyed the incentives for more than seven year and a total of about 45 million Naira was voted to the exercise by the State government.
The programmes were equally reinvigorated by the present Governor, Aminu Waziri to carter for less previlages in the society particularly, street beggars.
In a swift reaction, the Chairman of the Zakat and Endowment Fund, Alhaji Muhammadu Maidoki has equally condemned street begin in totality, saying, “we are doing our best and government on the other hand is doing her best to carter for the needy, but we would soon address the issues and the challenges.
Adding that he and his men receive a total of N45 million naira monthly to solve their needs and also pay their monthly allowance.
He also said those that lost their life are replaced with new beggars if there is vacant space for such, but the culture of our people is difficult to trivet it out.
While calling of government to also fine turn another programmes aimed at cushioning their bad behaviours.
“We would not be tired, already we have introduced variety of programmes to assist them to become self-reliance”; he said.
