Students of Benue Polytechnic, Ugbokolo, yesterday protested the increment in tuition fees by the management of the school.
A reliable source in the institution told Nigerian Pilot on telephone that the students demonstrated their anger by proceeding to the Otukpo/Enugu highway and blocked the road, resulting in heavy traffic jam.
The situation, according to the source was later brought under control when the rector of the institution, Prof. Hyacinth Oluma, went and addressed the students and urged them to give the school authorities some time to take a second look at the fees.
Some of the students who spoke to this reporter under the condition of anonymity said, the increment was astronomical and higher that what obtains in similar institutions.
Reacting to the development, the Otukpo Police Area Commander, Fasugba Akinyele, said police officers had been deployed to ensure the situation does not get out of hand.
