SPEAKER of the Benue State House of Assembly, Honourable Terkimbir Ikyange and three principal officers were detained yesterday by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, in Abuja.
Nigerian Pilot reliably learnt that the principal officers of the assembly were invited to Abuja over alleged misappropriation of N750million meant for the purchase of cars for members.
According to one of the sources, others invited include Deputy Speaker James Okefe and Majority Leader Benjamin Adanyi, who were said to have been visitors of the anti graft agency for over a week before they were finally detained.
“As I speak to you now, a bail application for these officers are being processed,” said a source, adding that the people were detained since last Tuesday.
Meanwhile, a pressure group in the state known as Concerned Benue Youths for Good Governance has called for the resignation of the principal officers.
The group led by John Ashaver in a signed press statement noted that the officers lacked any moral obligation to lead the house.
He said: “It is unfortunate that in just one year the house is enmeshed in monumental corruption. All the principal officers should resign; the house stinks.”
