TWO weeks after the inauguration of the 23 local government sole administrators in Benue State, a Chief Magistrate Court, sitting in Makurdi, the state capital has remanded in prison the sole administrator of Buruku local government, Mr. David Yiman and two others in prison custody over alleged
murder. Those remanded with the council boss include; Kosuvenyi Kungwa and Emmanuel Nyajo. According to the First Information Report, FIR, obtained from the court, the suspects were arrested in connection with the murder of a 50 year-old lecturer of the department of Political Science, University of Mkar, Mr. Aondosoo
Wilfred Tondo, in August, this year. The FIR read inter alia: “During police investigation, one Kosuvenyi Kungwa, Emmanuel Nyajo and Honourable David Yiman all males were arrested for conspiring with many others now at large to commit the crimes”. When the case was mentioned yesterday, no plea was taken for want of jurisdiction. However, the police
prosecuting officer, Hyacinth Gbakor told the court that investigation was still in progress and asked for another date. Counsel to the accused, Mr. E.C. Terver, did not oppose the application for adjournment, saying, “We will apply for the bail of our client formally.” Ruling, the Chief Magistrate, Isaac Ajim adjourned the case to January, 23rd, 2017 for further mention.
