NOT less than 10 persons were yesterday morning killed and several others injured during an attack by Fulani herdsmen in Gaambe- Tiev, Logo Local Government Area of Benue State. According to Joseph Anawa, erstwhile senior special assistant to former Governor Gabriel Suswam, the attack took place at about 7:30am in Adayohor village, along Uver- Gov Sevav road. He said the victims, who were cut on the stomach and neck with machetes, met their untimely deaths while on their way to their farms around Adayohor.
Anawa further revealed that those injured had been hospitalised at the NKST Hospital in Anyiin. Reacting to the incident, the member representing Logo constituency in the House of Assembly, Kester Kyenge expressed worry over the persistent killing and said the exact figure of those killed were yet to be confirmed.
He decried the manner the state government is handling security issues, especially as it concerns death toll, and urged it to be responsible and responsive enough by deploying security operatives to halt the killings. It would be recalled that the attacks on Logo, home country of former Governor Suswam, have claimed over 81 persons
in less than two weeks. Only last week, a prominent indigene of the area, Terkula Suswam convened a peace meeting between Tiv farmers and Fulani herdsmen where it was resolved that they would sheath their swords. When contacted on phone, the state police spokesman, ASP Moses Yamu said he was yet to be briefed on the development.
