No fewer than 40 persons were killed, with several houses burnt down in different attacks in Mangara, Diwa, Kamuya Kufi, Kamuya Gari and Warawa villages of Biu local government of Borno state.
A resident of the Area, Mallam Madu Ibrahim said “20 were killed in Warawara, 2 in Dewa, 7 Kamya Kufi and 8 in Kamuya Gari.
He said the incident occurred one after the other between the hours of 3pm on Sunday to 4:00am Monday without any challenge from the military.
Mangara and Warawara villages are about 5 kilometres and 7
Kilometres respectively away from Buratai, the
home town of the Chief of Army Staff Lt. General Tukur Buratai.
A resident of Magarkri who fled to Miringa town, Mallam Salihu Idi told our correspondent on phone that the insurgents who came at about 3:15 Pm on Sunday on motorcycles and bicycles shot sporadically and set houses ablaze;
He said “ I saw three people killed and their corpses were lying on the streets and when we arrived Miringa, I was told that five other people were missing, which I don’t know whether they were killed or got missing in the bush or abducted. Nobody can tell since we all fled the village.
He called on the Federal Government and the military to go into the villages and bushes to flush out the Boko Haram
insurgents, as the Army are yet to go into the Bushes where the insurgents are hiding.
Our correspondent gathered that after the Mangari attack, the insurgents move to Wawara about 6 kilometres away from Buratai and set ablaze the whole village killing people.
A native of Warawara, Inusa Lawan said the attackers came about 6:15 am on Monday and started setting houses ablaze, killing five people.
“Yes the Boko Haram terrorist killed 5 people in our village, including my brother. As I am speaking to you now our village head and other elders of the town have gone to bury the corpses and I believe when they come back, we will know the number of those killed and their identities”, he stated.
A security source from Biu who does not want his name in print also confirmed the incident to our correspondent on
phone that “24 persons were killed in Warawara, 2 in
Managari and 4 in Kamuwa which occurred at exactly 2000 hours”.
Confirming the attack, a vigilante member in Mringa
Alhaji Dauda, said yes they were told 8 people were killed and that some of their members and some soldiers have gone to the Warawara village with a view to pursuing the insurgents.
