A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Senator Abubakar Girei has cautioned the leadership of the party to stop the blame game over the defeat the party suffered in the presidential election, saying the entire leadership should instead accept full responsibility for the party’s defeat and by extension President Jonathan’s defeat at the polls.
This was as he also aligned himself with earlier calls on the National Chairman of the PDP Adamu Muazu and the entire National Working Committee, NWC to relinquish their positions to pave way for the party to be re-positioned.
Senator Girei made his position known to newsmen in Kaduna, when he said for the party’s loss to be only a temporary setback it needs to reinvent, re-engineer and re-brand itself as early as possible in order to bounce back in the next round of elections in 2019.
According to him, “although the loss suffered by our great party PDP in the last elections was an act of God, the national leadership of the party must accept full responsibility for the humiliating defeat.
“For this loss to be only a temporary setback, the party needs to reinvent, re-engineer and re-brand itself earliest possible in order to bounce back in the next round of elections in 2019.
“The party, PDP remains the largest and the best structured with the most experienced, dedicated and committed members who will not sit down and watch greedy, corrupt and inept leadership send their party to its early grave.
“It is in view of this that I am constrained to once again appeal to the national chairman and members of the NWC to honourably relinquish their positions in order to pave way for the immediate repositioning of the PDP.
“Those who claim that they have a tenure to serve should be reminded that the party members and indeed Nigerians know how each and every one of them came on board.
“Therefore failure for them to resign honourably will leave the party members committed future success of the party with no alternative than to pass vote of no confidence and sack them all.
“I am also hereby calling on our leader, Chief Tony Anenih, BoT chairman, Senate President, David Mark and Governor Akpabio, chairman of PDP Governors’ Forum, to summon a meeting of major stakeholders, before the end of May, to salvage our great party.”
