No fewer than 11 persons were on Sunday drowned in a boat mishap on the Escravos river.
It was gathered that two speed boats reportedly collided on the Escravos River in Warri South-West Council Area of Delta State, which was allegedly caused by poor visibility.
The boats were said to be on high speed and because of the cloudy weather, the drivers could not locate each other and eventually collided.
It was further learnt that one of the boats was returning from Escravos to Warri while the other was heading to the opposite direction.
The driver of the boat heading to Escravos from Warri survived the accident along others who are receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital in Warri.
A source told newsmen that the boat from Warri took off from the Rex water front jetty at the Ugbuwangue community in the metropolis.
The number of persons involved in the accident from both boats could not be immediately ascertained as there is usually no manifest for local transporters.
A police source within the Warri Area Command who did not want to be named confirmed the accident.
