Bobbi Kristina Brown, daughter of late singer, Whitney Houston and Bobbi Brown, has died, family representative, Kristen Foster revealed. Foster said the 22-year old passed away on Sunday surrounded by her family and was, “finally at peace in the arms of God.”
“We want to again thank everyone for their tremendous amount of love and support during these last few months,” foster added in the press release.
Brown was discovered unresponsive in a bathtub on January 31 and placed in a medically induced coma, from which she never regained consciousness until she died almost six months later. She was moved to a hospice in the city of Duluth, Georgia, a month ago after her condition deteriorated.
It would however be recalled that the circumstances surrounding her death are similar to that of her mother in 2012.Whitney Houston was found dead in a bathtub with cocaine in her system at 48. Mother and daughter grew even closer after Houston’s divorce from Brown in 2007. Houston and Bobbi Kristina performed together on ABC’s “Good Morning America” in 2009, singing “My Love Is Your Love” in Central Park.
Earlier, little Bobbi, who was born in 1993, was doted upon by both parents and Houston often brought the youngster on stage. She told Rolling Stone magazine in 1993 that “having Bobbi Kristina … I could never do anything that could top that. There has been nothing more incredible in my life than having her. God knows, I have been in front of millions and millions of people, and that has been incredible, to feel that give-take thing. But, man, when I gave birth to her and when they put her in my arms, I thought: ‘This has got to be it. This is the ultimate.’ I haven’t experienced anything greater,” Houston said.
So, after the legendary singer died in an accidental drowning in a bathtub, and a coroner ruled heart disease and cocaine use as contributing factors, there was a great deal of concern for Brown, who was 18 at the time.
She, however, opened up to Oprah Winfrey during an interview in March 2012 about how she was coping with the loss of her mother: “No one knows what an amazing spirit she was. She wasn’t only a mother; she was a best friend… I can hear her voice telling me to ‘keep moving, baby, I gotcha’. She’s always with me. I can always feel her with me,” she said.
However, there were speculations that Brown may have suffered from some of the same problems as her parents, as both Houston and Bobby Brown had documented issues with substance abuse. This speculation increased when she appeared intoxicated during some scenes of the short-lived reality show “The Houstons: On Our Own”.
Those concerns intensified in July 2014 after a picture was posted on her Instagram account showing a young woman who looked like Brown smoking from a bong – an image that made the media rounds at that time. Although, she later denied that she posted the photo and tweeted that it was done by someone attempting to tarnish her image.
It was Gordon and a male friend who discovered Brown unconscious in her townhome. While Brown called Gordon her husband, there is no court record of a marriage between the two and family members say the couple was never legally married.
Police were called to Brown’s home on January 23 after someone reported a fight there, but no one answered the door and officers found no evidence of an altercation, a Roswell police spokeswoman said. After Bobbi was found in the bathtub, authorities launched a criminal investigation. A family friend said the police questioned Gordon about the bruises on Brown’s chest and he told them it was as a result of giving her CPR.
In June, a civil lawsuit was filed against Gordon in the Superior Court of Fulton County, Georgia, alleging that his behaviour “caused, among other things, substantial bodily harm to Brown.” It also alleged that since Brown’s hospitalisation in January, Gordon accessed her bank accounts and stole more than $11,000.
Whitney was for several years a victim of domestic violence from her former husband, Bobby Brown, a situation which many thought contributed to her resorting to drug use. Bobbi had after her mother’s death, fallen in love with Nick Gordon, who was taken in by Houston when he was 12 years old and was raised with her.
Gordon and Brown became romantically involved after Houston’s death, and tensions between the Gordon and Houston families over the relationship were part of the storyline on Lifetime’s short-lived reality show “The Houstons: On Our Own.”
Despite the tensions, though, the duo announced their engagement in 2013 and she took to her Facebook page to clear up the misconception that he was her adopted brother.
Far from being bothered by the relationship, Brown said her mother had predicted they would fall in love. “People need to seriously stop judging my relationship. Pretty sure it is my own decision who I want to be with,” she said. In 2012, she made her acting debut on Tyler Perry’s TBS show “For Better or Worse.” Perry is a close family friend who frequently visited Brown while she was hospitalised.
Bobbi Kristina Brown died as a reality television and media personality, singer, and heiress. She was the daughter of singers Bobby Brown and Whitney Houston, and her parents’ fame kept her in the public eye, including her appearances on the reality show, Being Bobby Brown. Brown was 14 when her parents divorced and Houston gained custody.
When Withney died in February 2012, in accordance with her will, Brown was named the sole beneficiary of her mother’s estate. So she became the beneficiary of Houston’s entire estate including clothing, jewelry, cars, personal effects, and furniture. The will also provided for Brown to receive trust fund payments in installments until she reached age 30, after which time she was to receive the remainder of Houston’s $115 million estate.
Two days before she was found face-down in the bathtub at her home outside Atlanta in January, it seemed like her career might have been picking up.“Let’s start this career up&&moving OUT to TO YOU ALLLL quick shall we !?!???!” she tweeted. It is however not clear what projects she may have been working on, but they sure won’t be completed now.
Clearly, her death cut short the dreams she had of following in her mother’s footsteps by pursuing a career in music and acting.
