Suspected members of Boko haram sect on Thursday slaughtered three firewood and charcoal sellers at the outskirt of Dala Alamdari ward of Maiduguri metropolis.
Eye witneses said that the victims were among the six groups of people who went to a nearby bush at the outskirt of the city to fetch firewood, but were unlucky to run into suspected fleeing terrorists, who gunned down one of them after slaughtering two people, while three others escaped unhurt.
It was further learnt that upon hearing the sad news, members of a vigilante group commonly known as civilian JTF mobilized to the scene where they met three of the firewood dealers while two others that had their throats cut off were lying in the pool of their blood.
A resident of Dala, who participated in the burial of the slain firewood dealers, Mallam Usman Ali Dala, confirmed the incident to Nigerian Pilot on Sunday.
“Yes three people including one of my neighbours was among those killed by terrorists when they went to a nearby bush to scavenge for firewood to sustain their immediate family needs. We buried them on (Thursday) according to Islamic rites”. Ali Dala added.
