Former governor of Lagos State and national leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has vowed to deal with Senator Dino Melaye (APC-Kogi), if he dares beat his wife, Senator Oluremi Tinubu (APC-Lagos).
Melaye had on Tuesday vowed to beat Senator Tinubu during a closed-door session of the Senate over the forgery case against principal officers of the Senate.
Tinubu had expressed disapproval of the tactic suggested by Melaye, who was of the opinion that commencing impeachment proceedings against President Muhammadu Buhari would make the executive back down on the trial.
He went to the extent of saying to Senator Tinubu: “I can fuck you.”
Reacting to the development, Asiwaju Tinubu vowed to deal with Melaye if he takes any untoward action against his wife.
Speaking through his spokesman, Sunday Dare, Tinubu said Melaye’s comments constituted a major low for him.
Dare, writing on his Twitter handle, said: “And if Dino thinks nothing will happen if he dare beats up another senator, then he must be living in a fool’s paradise. Things will happen. Dino Malaye sunk to the lowest ever today. From this point, it is downhill for him; a disgrace to the Senate of the Republic.”
Group calls for Melaye’s to apology to Tinubu
In another development, Coalition of Civil Societies and Media Executives for Good Governance, COCMEGG, has risen against a disparaging statement said to have been made by Senator Dino Melaye and called on him to apologise with immediate effect.
COCMEGG said in a statement signed by its president, Omoba Kenneth Aigbegbele, and secretary, James Okoronkwo, that it viewed Melaye’s recent utterances as unparliamentarily, ungentlemanly and uncouth.
It argued that “for Senator Dino Melaye to degenerate to a street urchin in the hallowed chambers of the Nigeria Senate through his unguarded statements was an actions unbecoming of his status as a Senator.
“It is unfortunate that Senator Dino Malaye has constituted himself as a cog to President Muhammadu Buhari’s patriotic crusade against corruption in Nigeria. Dino Melaye is a huge disappointment to his constituency, the Senate and the Nigeria’s democracy. It is unfortunate and reprehensible that Senator Dino have resorted to maligning the constituted authority on whose platform he rose to being a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
The statement said apart from being a ranking senator, Senator Oluremi Tinubu is the spouse of the national leader of the APC, the ruling party, and described Melaye’s behaviour as an affront to the APC, the African tradition of respect for elders and a threat to our nascent democracy.
“We, therefore, condemn these despicable unparliamentary behaviour in its entirety and demand an unreserved apology on the floor of the Senate, published in five national dailies within 7days, failure of which, we will be forced to mobilise and commence recall proceedings against him.
COCMEGG lamented that instead of channeling his youthful energy to achieving the APC change mantra, his actions and utterances fall short of what is required of a party chieftain and senator.
“It is quite demeaning and sad that Dino Melaye has reduced himself to the attack dog of the present Senate Leadership and therefore call on members of the National Assembly and well-meaning Nigerians to condemn Senator Melaye’s misdemeanour and savagery daily exhibited on the floor of the hallowed chambers.”
