The caretaker chairman of Bayo Local Government Area of Born State, Alhaji Maigari Abari has called on the federal government to reconstruct Gombe-Biu road to enable easy movement of goods and service and also reduce accident on the road.
Alhaji Maigari, who made the call in an interview with
Nigerian Pilot in Maiduguri, said Biu-Gombe road was the
most essential road, more especially with closure of many intercity roads, due to the insurgency in the North-East.
He said the road remained the only one linking Maiduguri, Yola, Gombe, Bauchi Taraba Damaturu and other towns in the region.
He also appealed to the federal and Borno State government to assist those ravaged by flooding in the local government,
stressing that the flooding had caused a lot of damage on farmlands in Jaragol, Jara Dari and surroundings.
The chairman said his council had purchased over 600 bags of maize distributed to those whose farms were destroyed by the flood, in addition to the procurement and distribution of fertiliser to all farmers in the area.
On how they were able to have prevent dispute between farmers and cattle rearers, the chairman said they had been having a regular meeting between leaders of the farmers, herdsmen, traditional rulers and security agencies, where they map out cattle routes and how to live in peace.
